Six is a jubilant celebration of sisterhood. You come for the Queens and these young queens live up to the hype.
This musical is Tudor history - or modern day 'herstory' - a personal retelling of the lives of Henry VIII's wives. They have an argument to settle. Which one of them had it worse?!
The teenagers, from Curtain Call Creative, gave a spine-tingling performance to an appreciative audience of all ages and their visible enjoyment in enacting these roles was a delight to watch.
Introducing us to Henry's first wife, Catherine of Aragon, is the feisty Macie Edkins-Wherry. She drew us in from the start with her animation and energetic dancing.
Each wife took her turn in delivering a heartfelt solo performance accompanied by group numbers that you want to join in with.
Esme Barclay-Jay as Anne Boleyn, Caris Morgan as Jane Seymour, Ellen Careless as Anne of Cleves, Ava Cowan as Katherine Howard and Lottie Paine as Catherine Parr brought a maturity and skill rarely seen on display for such a young cast. The sheer talent required to sing and dance to this level was on show throughout, again demonstrating their united girl-power.
All of these girls have a very bright future ahead of them.
The live band on stage adds to the concert atmosphere in the big-top venue.
A party from start to finish: Six is clever, witty, captivating, and a lot of fun. This was a great addition to the Ventnor Fringe.
