A well-known Welsh band has announced they will be taking a hiatus after being together for ten years.
Adwaith, a trio from Carmarthenshire recognized for bringing the Welsh language to global audiences, informed their 11,000 social media followers of their decision, stating it was time to "live a normal life."
"As some of you know, this year marks our 10th anniversary (a whole decade, can you believe it?!?!)" the band wrote. "It has been the most fulfilling 10 years anyone could ever ask for.
"We've been around the world and back, sharing our music, language, and culture in so many amazing places with so many amazing people.
"Although we've been blessed with so many mind-blowing opportunities, we do feel it's time to take a little break."
Founded in 2015 by Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony, and Heledd Owen, Adwaith quickly became one of the most influential acts in contemporary Welsh music. Their blend of post-punk, indie, and experimental pop garnered them praise both locally and internationally.
Their debut album, Melyn, won the Welsh Music Prize in 2019, and its successor, Bato Mato, made history in 2022 by winning the award again, surpassing competitors like the Manic Street Preachers.
In 2025, the trio released Solas, an expansive 23-track double album recorded across Wales, Lisbon, and the Outer Hebrides.
In addition to their studio work, Adwaith gained a reputation as a dynamic live band, performing at Glastonbury, Greenman, Latitude, SXSW, Eurosonic, and festivals in Canada, Italy, and Russia.
The announcement of their break comes just weeks after they confirmed their return to Brighton’s Mutations Festival. However, the band quickly reassured fans that their journey isn't over.
"This isn't goodbye, it's a see you very soon!" they stated. "We want our next album to be our best work to date, so we just need to take a little time to write, to reinvent and to figure out what direction we want to go in."
Dozens of fans commented on the post in support of the girls. One wrote: "Pob lwc, diolch your music has been the soundtrack to Taliesin and I dancing around the garden."
Another added: "Well deserved rest for THE Welsh girls x"
